I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
I will tell of all thy wonderful deeds - Psalm 9:1

The Seven Sacraments

A Sacrament is an outward sign of inward grace, ordained by Jesus Christ, by which grace is given to our souls.

Our Lord instituted seven sacraments:

  1. Baptism - cleanses us from original sin and makes us children of God
  2. Reconciliation - forgiveness of sins
  3. Holy Eucharist - receiving the body and blood of Christ
  4. Confirmation - become an adult Christian by the power of the Holy Spirit
  5. Marriage - sanctifies the marriage covenant
  6. Holy Orders - ordination of priests and other ministers
  7. Anointing of the Sick - anointing and prayer over a person in danger of death

The sacraments are the primary means Christ instituted to help us live a holy life. They increase sanctifying grace in our souls as well as give us other special help, depending on the sacrament.

Given the dignity of sanctifying grace as the means by which we become partakers in God’s own life, then the value of the seven sacraments is self-evident. Priceless treasures from the God who loves us.
